Eve has officially released their Matter-certified Door & Window Contact Sensor as well as their Motion Sensor. Both sensors, like their predecessors, feature Thread. They are essentially the same sensors as before, but with the Matter firmware update already applied. The devices can be used with or without the Eve app because they now use Matter, and can be integrated into multiple smart home ecosystems/platforms at the same time.
Eve is one of the first and few product manufacturers to use Thread – a Matter standard – for most of their products. Thread allows devices to work in a mesh network where they can find each other and enhance their range (an issue that affects Wi-Fi devices). Thread is considered the gold-standard for Matter devices, but few devices have so far been released that feature Thread.
The Eve Door & Window Contact Sensor can be placed on Doors and/or Windows and used to receive alerts or in automations based on whether the sensor reads an open or closed state.
The Eve Motion Sensor has a 120° field of view and up to 9m detection range. It can be used Indoors and outdoors thanks to IPX3 water resistance and wireless battery operation. It is powered by 2 AAA batteries.
